Buying Sheets For A Single Mattress
You may think that it’s easy to buy sheets for a single mattress, but buying sheets can be more confusing than you think. First, you have to decide what kind of sheets you want. At the high end, there are Egyptian cotton sheets with a six hundred thread count. These are the softest and most luxurious sheets. Perhaps you prefer satin sheets. Extremely high end satin sheets might be made from silk, but less expensive ones are made from acetate. Acetate isn’t absorbent so satin may not be the best choice.
Then you need to choose between woven sheets or knit sheets. Maybe you prefer flannel. Less expensive sheets are usually a poly cotton blend. The advantage of poly cotton blends is that they are permanent press. It also depends on who is sleeping on the single mattress. You may want to buy less costly sheets for a child than for an adult.
What size is your single mattress? If you buy the wrong size sheets, they won’t fit. Is it a pillow top single mattress? If it is you’ll need to buy sheets with extra deep pockets specially made for pillow top mattresses. Maybe your single mattress is on a bunk bed. Bunk bed mattresses are usually not as thick as standard single mattresses and you may need to buy special sheets for bunk beds.
Maybe you bought a special single mattress that is longer than a standard single. If you did you’ll have to look for sheets to fit this longer single mattress. Some people are taller than average and single mattresses are offered in a special size to accommodate their extra height.
Then there are daybed and divans which are usually used as guest beds or in children’s rooms. Daybeds and divans usually come with a single mattress which may not be a standard size single mattress. You may have to look for special daybed sheets for this type of mattress. The only way to be sure if your sheets will fit you mattress is to check the measurements of both the sheets and the mattress.
Waterbeds require special sheets because standard sheets will not stay in place on a waterbed. If you have a single mattress on a waterbed, you’ll have to look for waterbed sheets.
Since non-standard sheets cost more than standard sized ones, it’s best to buy a standard single mattress. If you already have a non-standard size single mattress, you’ll have to shop around for the right sheets. Specialty bedding stores, both online and off are probably the best place to find sheets for a single mattress that isn’t a standard size.
